Forgiveness in Relationships

“You can forgive someone almost anything. But you cannot tolerate everything…We don’t have to tolerate what people do just because we forgive them for doing it. Forgiving heals us personally. To tolerate everything only hurts us all in the long run.” -Lewis B. Smedes

In life and love there will be mistakes. There will be hurt, pain, and sadness.  These things come, usually unintentionally, with the territory.

In the midst of the hurt and pain, don’t harden your heart.
To love each other is to forgive each other, so find the courage to let go–within limits.
Should there come a time when someone is abusing your love, patience, and forgiveness; it may be time to let go.  Just because you’re willing to forgive, doesn’t mean that you offer your mate permission to walk all over your heart.

Never refuse to forgive, but always refuse to be abused.
